Confidant Classes for Career Consultancy and Coaching Classes

Earlier this week, actor Irrfan Khan’s wife, Sutapa Sikdar, launched an appeal to legalize CBD oil in India. His appeal followed criticism from actor Rhea Chakrabaorty after it was reported that he administered CBD oil, used as a pain reliever for some, to Sushant Singh Rajput during his lifetime.

What is CBD oil?

  • CBD oil is an extract from the cannabis plant. The two main active ingredients it contains are cannabidiol or CBD and delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol or THC.
  • The high from cannabis use is due to THC. However, CBD does not cause “high” poisoning or any form of poisoning.
  • CBD oil is made by extracting the CBD from the cannabis plant and then diluting it with a carrier oil such as coconut or hemp oil.

What are the effects of cannabidiol?

Cannabidiol works in the brain, preventing the breakdown of a chemical that makes pain worse and affects mood and mental function. It can reduce pain and anxiety. It also reduces the psychotic symptoms associated with conditions such as schizophrenia and epilepsy.

How is CBD oil used?

CBD is extracted from marijuana plants in the form of oil or powder. These can be mixed into creams or gels. They can be put in capsules and taken orally or rubbed into the skin. All topicals (cannabis infused products) should be applied directly to the site of inflammation or pain to work on a specific area.

Is CBD Oil Helpful For Treating Cancer?

There isn’t enough solid scientific evidence to show that CBD oil can safely and effectively treat cancer. A study from the European Journal of Pain has shown that CBD applied to the skin can help reduce pain and inflammation due to arthritis.

  • CBD inhibits inflammatory and neuropathic pain associated with cancer. Studies have long shown that people who took marijuana extracts in clinical trials needed less pain relievers.
  • The National Cancer Institute, based in the United States, says that CBD may help alleviate the side effects of cancer treatment.

Is CBD Oil Legal In India?

The Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act 1985 (NDPS Act) prohibits the recreational use of cannabis. However, NDPS does not apply to the leaves and seeds of cannabis plants.

  • In the event that CBD is extracted from cannabis leaves, this is technically not illegal. CBD oil made under a license issued by the Drug and Cosmetics Act of 1940 can be used legally.
  • However, the use of cannabis as a medicine is not widespread in India. The recent controversy over drug use in Bollywood has further stigmatized the use of CBD.
