This year, the number of female candidates increased by almost 50%, while the number of male candidates increased by 34%.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) recorded 16.85 lakh registrations for the Common University Test (CUET) 2023, of which 13.9 lakh paid the fees and submitted the application form. There has been a 4 lakh increase in registrations since the first edition of CUET in 2022, according to the NTA.
This year, the number of female candidates increased by almost 50%, while the number of male candidates increased by 34%. Out of 13.9 lakh applicants, 6.51 lakh are women and 7.48 lakh are men. Last year around 4.34 lakh applicants were women and 5.56 lakhs were men.
“We have also seen an increase in the number of participating universities. In 2022 there were 90, but in 2023 it has risen to 242. This significant increase indicates that the CUET-UG is becoming a popular option to enter UG programs.”
UGC Chairman Mr. Jagadesh Kumar said,
Among the different categories, there has been a substantial growth in the number of applicants belonging to the ST category from 58,881 in 2022 to 95,119 in 2023. A total of 1,40,307 SC students enrolled in the CUET 2023, registering a 35% jump. The OBC-NCL category registered 4,61,022 registrations, an increase of 45.2%. The Open category registered 6,42,443 entries, an increase of 39.6%.
The EWS category registered 60,611 registrations, an increase of 20.5%. Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Bihar are the leading states in terms of number of registrations. A considerable jump has been observed in the enrollment of J&K students.
