India’s highest-ranked student city is Mumbai with 103, which scored affordably but struggles with student diversity and attractiveness. Bangalore follows at 114th place, while Chennai and Delhi entered the list this year at 125th and 129th, respectively.
In the QS Best Student Cities 2023 ranking, London emerged as the best city for students wishing to study abroad in terms of affordability, student facilities and academic standard, among other factors. Seoul and Munich are in second place, followed by Zurich and Melbourne in fourth and fifth place respectively.

- The QS Best Cities for Students ranking provides students with independent data on a range of factors relevant to their study decisions: affordability, quality of life, university level and the opinions of previous students who have studied in this university of destiny. QS ranks 140 cities worldwide.
- The best student city in the Arab region is Dubai, which ranks 51st in the world. Buenos Aires ranks first in Latin America and 23rd in the world. International students make up only a small fraction of all students in India.
- According to the All India Survey of Higher Education (AISHE) 2018-19, the number of international students enrolled in Indian universities was only 47,427.
- India aims to attract 200,000 international students which is more than four times the current total, by the end of 2023, a target that may need to be revised as it was set before the global Covid-19 pandemic, which profoundly affected international student mobility.
