The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has introduced a significant change in its examination schedule. Starting from 2025, the CA Final examinations will be conducted three times a year instead of the traditional biannual pattern. This landmark decision was taken during the 441st Council Meeting held on March 27, 2025, in New Delhi.

This change aligns with a similar adjustment made last year for the Intermediate and Foundation courses, ensuring uniformity across all three levels of the Chartered Accountancy (CA) program. ICAI stated,

“To stay in sync with international best practices and provide students with additional opportunities, the 26th Council of ICAI has taken a historic decision to hold the CA Final examination thrice a year. Previously, the examination was held twice a year.”

Revised CA Exam Schedule

Under the new system, the CA Final exams will be conducted in January, May, and September. This modification aims to offer students more flexibility in their attempts, allowing them to pace their preparation better and reduce delays in achieving their CA qualification.

Changes in Post Qualification Courses

In addition to the CA Final exam changes, ICAI has also revised the schedule for the Post Qualification Course in Information Systems Audit. The Assessment Test for this course, earlier conducted twice a year in June and December, will now be held three times annually in February, June, and October.

Impact of the Decision

The decision is expected to benefit CA aspirants by:

  • Providing additional opportunities to clear exams without long waiting periods.
  • Aligning India’s CA examination system with global standards.
  • Enhancing flexibility in exam preparation and career planning.

ICAI President CA Charanjot Singh Nanda and Vice President CA Prasanna Kumar D, along with other council members, emphasized that this change is part of broader initiatives to improve professional education and accessibility in the CA qualification process.

Further details regarding the new examination schedule, guidelines, and procedural changes are expected to be released soon by ICAI. Aspiring CAs are advised to stay updated with official ICAI announcements for the latest information.
