Central Committee Recommends Covaxin Approval

An expert panel from the Central Medicines Authority of India today recommended granting authorization for the emergency restricted use of the locally developed COVID-19 vaccine, Covaxin, under certain conditions, one day after giving similar instructions for the Oxford Covid-19 vaccine, the sources said. Covaxin was developed locally by Bharat Biotech in collaboration with the Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR). On January 2, the COVID-19 Subject Matter Experts Committee (SEC) of the Central Drug Standards Control Organization (CDSCO) again deliberated on the request for Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) for the pharmaceutical company based in Hyderabad, after presenting data, facts and analysis after the review meeting on Jan 1, Bharat Biotech applied to the Comptroller General of Medicines of India (DCGI) for authorization to use emergency for its Covaxin injection on Dec 7 . Farmer ends life on Ghazipur border

A 70-year-old farmer from Rampur district in Uttar Pradesh reportedly ended his life by being hanged at the Ghazipur border on Saturday morning, police said. Facing the cold snap, hundreds of farmers in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand are protesting against the agricultural laws on the Delhi-Ghaziabad border. Rajvir Singh, National Vice President of Union Bhartiya Kisan, said the farmer had been identified as Kashmira Singh from the Bilaspur block in Rampur. This is the second death on the Ghazipur border in two days. A 57-year-old Baghpat farmer died of cardiac arrest on Friday.

Free vaccination for 3 million frontline workers during the first phase: Minister of Health

Health Minister Harsh Vardhan said Saturday that free coronavirus vaccination would be provided to more than three million priority beneficiaries. He added that details of how the remaining 27 priority beneficiaries will be vaccinated by July are being finalized.
