Ayodhya’s claim in Nepal takes an archaeological turn

The Nepal Department of Archeology is holding inter-ministerial meetings to explore an archaeological site in Thori near the border town of Birgunj. The development comes just four days after Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli said that Lord Ram’s true birthplace is in the town of Thori around Birgunj, a major border city. Thori is known to have a group of ancient Hindu religious sites that attract pilgrims from different parts of Nepal. Nepalese historian Jagman Gurung, in a television interview, said that according to geographical descriptions in the Ramayana of Valmiki, it seems that Lord Ram’s Ayodhya was closer to Janakpur.

Human testing for Covaxin

Three volunteers were administered Covaxin, the indigenous Covid-19 candidate vaccine developed by Bharat Biotech, at the Post-Graduate Institute (PGI) of Medical Sciences in Rohtak today. Dhruva Chaudhry, a senior professor and head of the Department of Pulmonary Medicine and Critical Care, and also a co-principal investigator, told that the three volunteers were selected from a list of eight people. Candidates underwent health checks to ensure adequate liver function and freedom from infection, and then the vaccine was administered.

“All three tolerated it well. There were no complaints. We observed them for two hours before releasing them. The immediate component of the allergic reaction has been addressed. We will now look for any pain at the local site for the next 24-48 hours”

said Dr. Chaudhry.

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, who is on a two-day visit to Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir to review the situation along the Current Line of Control (LAC) and Line of Control (LoC), said today that While the talks should resolve the border problem with China, there was no guarantee on the extent to which they can do so. His comments came during his speech to the troops at the Lukung Border Observation Post (BOP) near Pangong Tso.

A day after the Electoral Commission (EC) reversed its decision to extend the postal voting service to voters over 65, nine opposition parties met in Delhi to oppose the panel’s decision to allow only digital campaigns. Together, the parties produced a joint memorandum opposing the EC’s decision to ban the traditional campaign mode and allow only a “virtual election campaign.” The memo noted that according to TRAI, only 34% of Bihar voters had a smartphone.

Following a complaint by the Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative (CHRI) about the lack of facilities and treatment for Varavara Rao, the 81-year-old poet who is in prison in connection with the Bhima Koregaon case, the National Commission on Human Rights (NHRC)) said Friday that the Maharashtra’s chief secretary should personally investigate the matter to ensure he is transferred to the best possible Covid-19 hospital. Rao had recently tested positive for Covid-19 and his family had issued an appeal for him to receive adequate medical care. Noting that Rao is a prisoner under trial in the custody of the State, the Commission said that all expenses for medical treatment should be borne by the State, as he is its legal custodian.

The number of coronavirus cases reported from India was 10,37,267 at the time of publication of this bulletin, with a death toll of 26,279. The Ministry of Health said today that less than 1.94% of all Covid-19 cases are in ICU, 0.35% is in ventilators and 2.81% are in oxygen beds. Meanwhile, the ICMR has asked the States and Territories of the Union to identify and approve all government facilities and private facilities for conducting rapid antigen testing for Covid-19.
