SC Verdict on Padmanabhaswamy Temple

In a Victory for the Former Royal Family of Travancore, the Supreme Court ruled today that the bait rights of its members (the right to manage the property of the deity) at Sree Temple Padmanabhaswamy in Thiruvananthapuram survived the death of the sovereign, according to custom.

  • Annulling the 2011 decision of the Kerala High Court, the main court held that the death of a leader had not resulted in the abandonment of property in favor of the government despite amendment 26 (to end the bags at hand and private privileges of the leaders of the former Indian states) of the constitution.
  • However, the court formed a committee chaired by the district judge, who will continue to exercise his functions as administrative director. Previously, a process had been launched to prepare an inventory of the temple treasures stored in its six vaults.
  • While five safes had been inventoried, Safe B was not, as the family claimed that a mythical curse was associated with the opening of this safe.
  • Now, this new committee, which will have the Hindus as members, will also decide on the opening of safe B.
  • With this decision, the court rejected the arguments according to which the conventions executed by the old king Travancore have no “existence and” are not enforceable. “

CBSE publishes Class 12 results, pass rate

In a year where the CBSE exams were interrupted due to Covid-19, the pass rate for Class 12 students was 5% higher than the previous year, with 88.8% of students passing the exam compared to 83.4% in 2019.

  • For those subjects that were canceled due to the pandemic, the scores were calculated based on the performance of students in completed jobs , using an assessment system approved by the Supreme Court.
  • Only a third of the 12 lakh candidates were able to complete all the subjects. A list of topper merits has not been announced this year.
  • The results of 400 students could not be calculated using the rating system and have not been announced, the CBSE said in a statement.
  • Students who wish to improve their grades on canceled jobs will be able to take an optional exam, which will be taken as soon as the conditions are met. These results will be treated as final for those who choose this option.
