Two vaccines, and Covaxin, are approved for emergency use

The Central Standard Drug Control Organization (CDSCO) on Sunday approved two vaccines, developed by the Serum Institute of (SII) and Bharat Biotech, respectively, for use public. The formal approval came after a CDSCO Subject Matter Experts Committee (SEC) recommended that the permit be granted “for restricted use in public interest emergencies.” This makes it possible to deploy vaccines in the coming weeks.

No company has completed Phase 3 trials in India, but the SEC has relied on data from both Phase 1 and Phase 2 trials, which test whether the vaccine is safe and generates adequate antibodies. The committee was of the opinion that the data suggested that the vaccine was safe and well tolerated in limited groups of volunteers.

In the case of IBS, the committee relied on data from Phase 3 trials of approximately 23,000 participants in overseas trials. Provisional data from a trial of 1,600 volunteers in India showed efficacy to be “comparable”, the statement said.

In the case of Covaxin from Bharat Biotech, only data from animal studies and phase 2 data were studied in 800 volunteers. Both companies are expected to continue their clinical trials and continue to submit data. Somani did not discuss or provide details on the requirements that companies should meet for licensing.

The World Health Organization has welcomed India’s decision to allow the emergency use of two Covid-19 vaccines and said it will help “step up” and “strengthen” its fight against in progress.

PM Modi does not see the pain and struggle of farmers: Sonia Gandhi

Congresswoman Sonia Gandhi said on Sunday that a government that ignores public sentiment in a democracy will not stay in power for long, describing the government as the first “arrogant regime in independent India that cannot see the pain and struggle of farmers. “

Guaranteeing the profits of a select few capitalists has become the main program of the government, he argued, reminding the Center that “democracy means protecting the interests of farmer-workers”.

On the 39th day of the protests at the Singhu border in Delhi, Gandhi said in a statement that the government should avoid arrogance and unconditionally repeal the three agricultural laws to end the unrest.

“Like my fellow citizens, I am sorry to see the plight of our farmers who protest at the Delhi borders for 39 days in this freezing cold and rains to have their demands accepted,” he said.

The congressional leader alleged that more than 50 protesting farmers had died due to government apathy, while some had ended their lives in protest. And yet it did not melt ’s heart and no minister had a word of comfort to say to the families of the deceased.

Possible bubble explosion by Indian cricketers under investigation

Cricket Australia (CA), in a press release, said it was investigating, along with BCCI, a possible violation of biosafety protocols by members of the Indian test team who are currently touring Australia. The decision to open an investigation came after a fan posted a video of the players at a covered restaurant, identifying himself as Navaldeep Singh on Twitter.

Five players – vice-captain Rohit Sharma, starter Shubman Gill, goalkeeper , pacemaker Navdeep Saini and hitter Prithvi Shaw – are scanned for the possible bubble rupture. But they were not banned from traveling with the team despite the ongoing investigation. The entire Indian cricket contingent, including these five, will travel to Sydney together for the third round against Australia on the same chartered flight on Monday.

It is understood that the controversy has not gone well with the travel team and he is not amused by the way Cricket Australia has handled the matter so far. For BCCI, the man under the scanner is Administrative Director Girish Dongre. Dongre is a BCCI employee and is expected to manage and keep the team up to date with Covid-19 protocols.

Covid Watch: The number of coronavirus cases reported in India was 1.03,37,206 at the time of writing, with a toll of 1.49,636.

At least 23 people were killed and more than a dozen injured when the roof of a hallway of a crematorium in the town of Muradnagar in Ghaziabad collapsed on Sunday, authorities said. Anurag Bhargava, chief medical superintendent of MMG hospital, said 23 people.
