Nanda Devi Glacier Outbreak – Seven Bodies Recovered

Seven bodies were found and more than 125 people are missing after a flash flood, allegedly caused by glacier fragmentation, hit the Rishi Ganga dam site in the market on Sunday of the Rishi River in Uttarakhand.

A small hydroelectric project on the Rishiganga River was also razed. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also approved an ex gratia of Rs. 2 lakh each from PMNRF for the families of those who lost their lives due to the tragic avalanche caused by a glacier rupture in Chamoli, Uttrakhand.

Rs 50,000 would be given to seriously injured people. At least 12 people have so far been rescued by ITBP from an open tunnel, according to a senior official from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).

Five NDRF teams, three of which were airlifted from Hindon to Ghaziabad, are on their way to the disaster site and will join the rescue operations in the late afternoon.

Overseas forces conspire to tarnish the image of Indian tea – PM

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Sunday that some overseas forces are plotting to tarnish the image of Indian tea. Pope Francis appoints the first woman to a majority position at the synod

Pope Francis has broken with Catholic tradition by appointing a woman undersecretary of the synod of bishops, the first to hold the position with the right to vote in a body that studies the main issues of doctrine.

The French Nathalie Becquart is one of the two new undersecretaries appointed on February 6 at the synod, where she has been a consultant since 2019.
The synod is headed by bishops and cardinals who have the right to vote and is also made up of experts who cannot vote, with the next meeting scheduled for fall 2022.
A special synod on the Amazon in 2019 saw 35 female “listeners” invited to the assembly, but none were able to vote. The Argentine-born pope expressed his desire to reform the synod and for women and lay people to play a greater role in the Church.

Have full confidence in the judiciary – Faruqui

Comedian Munawar Faruqui, who was released from prison after 35 days in a case of allegedly injured religious feelings, has said he has full confidence in the judiciary and hopes for justice.

Faruqui was released from Indore Central Prison on Saturday evening after prison officials verified Friday’s bail order from the Supreme Court’s Supreme Court order on his website, previously reported declared a prison officer.
The Supreme Court granted him interim bail on Friday after Madhya Pradesh’s High Court rejected his bail statement on January 28.
The Supreme Court also suspended the production order issued against Mr. Faruqui by a court in Prayagraj relating to an FIR that was hosted there.
However, he was not released on Saturday evening until after a judicial magistrate in Indore called the prison authorities and asked them to check the Supreme Court’s website for the bail order.

Sasikala, Dinakaran trying to incite violence, AIADMK leaders say

Senior ministers and AIADMK leaders complained on Saturday to Police Director General JK Tripathie that VK Sasikala, assistant to former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, and TTV Dhinakaran, secretary general of Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam, was trying to incite violence. Ministers D. Jayakumar, P. Thangamani, C.Ve. Shanmugam and the chairman of the party presidium, E. Madhusudhanan, were among those who met Mr. Tripathy.

On Thursday, they filed a complaint to prevent Ms. Sasikala from using the AIADMK flag. Mr. Shanmugam alleged that Mr. Dhinakaran had launched a significant threat that would cause public order problems in the state. To incite violence, Ms. Sasikala, Mr. Dhinakaran and their men have devised a “grand conspiracy”. The AIADMK government is functioning successfully, he said.
