All acquitted in Babri Masjid demolition case

A special CBI court in Uttar Pradesh today ruled that the demolition of Babri Masjid in Ayodhya on December 6, 1992 was not planned but involved “elements antisocial ” who were agitated and caused destruction.

  • The court acquitted the 32 people accused by the CBI of plotting to demolish the mosque, including BJP leaders LK Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi and Uma Bharti. “The accused tried to stop the demolition,” the court said.
  • “The anti-social elements brought down the structure. The accused leaders tried to arrest these people, ”said the special judge, whose sentence had been extended by this verdict.
  • The court also ruled that audio and video evidence produced by the CBI did not support conspiracy charges. He added that the audio for the speeches was unclear.

“There is no evidence that the defendants joined forces with antisocial Kar Sewaks to bring down the contested structure. The leaders seated on stage and relatives of Ram Chabutara, VHP frontman Ashok Singhal and BJP’s Vijaya Raje Scindia, did not suspect that a section of the Kar Sewak would agitate and aggravate the contested structure, ”

the judge said.
  • The demolition of the mosque was preceded by a series of “Rath Yatras” led by L.K. Advani, whose campaign for a Ram temple catapulted the BJP into the national spotlight.
  • The CBI alleged that Advani, Joshi, Uma Bharti and Kalyan Singh, the U.P. At the time, they were present near the mosque and gave speeches that prompted the crowd to proceed with the demolition.
  • The CBI will decide to appeal the verdict of the special tribunal after consulting with the legal department, its lawyer said.

Liberhan Commission reported “conspiracy joint venture”

  • Interestingly, the IWC tribunal’s verdict contradicts the findings of the Liberhan Justice Commission, which investigated the sequence of events that led to the demolition of Babri Masjid and submitted its report to then-Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on June 30, 2009, 16 years later, it was formed, and after 399 sessions.
  • The Commission’s report argued unequivocally that the events leading up to the demolition of Babri Masjid were part of a planned plot. Now is a good time to recall some of your main conclusions:
  • “It is established that the events of December 6 and preceding it in the birthplace of the righteous Lord Ram, considered an embodiment of God and the ideal king, were marred by a conspiratorial joint venture. A handful of malicious leaders have shamelessly invoked the name of the tolerance model to turn peaceful communities into intolerant hordes. “
  • “The factual matrix also casts indisputable evidence that, drawn by the prospect of power or wealth, a range of leaders emerged within the BJP, RSS, VHP, Shiv Sena, Bajrang Dal, etc., who were not guided by no ideology. nor imbued with any dogma. nor restricted by moral concerns. These rulers saw the “Ayodhya problem” as their path to success, and they rushed down that path regardless of the scattered losses. These leaders were the executioners who brandished the sword that the ideologues had given them ”.
