“Mann ki baat” 67th edition

Highlights

  • The coronavirus remains as dangerous as when it started, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said today, urging citizens to commit to freeing themselves from the pandemic on August 15, when the country celebrates independence day.
  • With more than 13 lakh cases, India is the third most affected country in the world coronavirus count after the United States and Brazil.
  • “This year, the August 15 celebrations will also take place in very different circumstances, amid the coronavirus pandemic. I urge young people, the people of my country, to commit to overcoming the pandemic on this day of independence”.
  • A self-sufficient India, a willingness to learn and teach something new and a willingness to seriously fulfill our duties, Prime Minister Modi said as he addressed the nation through his monthly radio show, Mann Ki Baat.
  • Although the country is among the hardest hit, it has managed to achieve a successful recovery rate from the COVID-19 pandemic, Prime Minister Modi said, highlighting India’s record in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Today, the recovery rate of COVID-19 in our country is better than others. We have been able to save the lives of thousands of people, but the threat of the coronavirus is not yet over. We must remain vigilant. We must remember that the coronavirus is still as dangerous as when it started.

PM Modi said during the 67th edition of his monthly radio show.
  • He also had a tip for those who feel “tired” of wearing a mask. “Sometimes we have problems with the masks. Some people take off the masks while they speak. Whenever you feel like taking off your masks, just think of the doctors and other Covid warriors who fight in the battle of the crown wearing these masks for hours and hours” he declared.
  • This morning, India reported 48,661 cases of the coronavirus, bringing the total to 13,855,522 so far. The death toll has risen to 32,063, including 705 in the past 24 hours. However, the country has a recovery rate of more than 63%.
  • A total of 8,855,577 have been recovered since the first case was reported on March 2.
  • The number of coronavirus cases has doubled in almost three weeks since July 2, when the country crossed the six-lakh mark.
  • The country’s Covid total reached the 10 lakh mark last Friday. Since then, around three lakhs of new infections have been reported, the fourth consecutive day that COVID-19 cases have increased by more than 45,000.
  • India gradually increased its COVID-19 testing capacity and conducted more than 4.2 lakh tests in one day, the Union Ministry of Health said Saturday, attributing the increase in the number of laboratories to this production.
