The first signs of a withdrawal throughout the disputed LAC, Chinese troops “moved” two kilometers from the site of the violent clashes on June 15 in  the Galwan Valley in eastern Ladakh, a second official said that some tents had been removed by the PLA in the Finger 4 area of Pangong Tso.

“The Chinese People’s Liberation Army (EPL) was seen removing tents and structures at Patrolling Point (PP) 14. Some backward movement of EPL vehicles was observed in the general area of Galwan, Hotsprings and Gogra,”

said a government source.

“Some tents have been removed from the Finger 4 area at Pangong Tso,”

said the government official

Pangong Tso is one of the most controversial areas of the current impasse, with the PLA moving some 8 km inland towards Finger 4. India’s demand depends on Finger 8 according to the LAC alignment.

  • The withdrawal measures came after a long and detailed conversation between National Security Adviser (NSA) Ajit Doval and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Sunday night.
  • They reportedly decided to deactivate the two-month deadlock in Ladakh, even as China continued to claim that its troops “were defending territorial sovereignty” during the Galwan clash on June 15.

“The two Special Representatives agreed that the two sides should be guided by the consensus of the leaders that the maintenance of peace and tranquility in the Indochinese border areas is essential for the future development of our bilateral relations and that the two sides should not allow the differences to turn into disputes”

the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said in a statement released Monday afternoon.

Altogether, eight Lakh Indians could be forced to leave Kuwait, as the National Assembly committee passed a bill on expatriate quotas aimed at reducing the number of foreign workers in the Gulf.

  • The Legal and Legislative Committee of the National Assembly has determined that the Expatriate Quota Bill is constitutional.
  • Under the bill, Indians must not exceed 15% of the population.
  • This could lead to the departure of 8 million Indians from Kuwait, the Indian community that constitutes the country’s largest expat community, with a total of 1.45 million, Gulf News reported, citing a Kuwaiti newspaper.
  • Kuwait is also one of the main sources of remittances for India, with media estimates that in 2018 India received almost $ 4.8 billion.
  • Amid falling oil prices and the coronavirus pandemic, anti-expatriate rhetoric peaked when lawmakers and government officials called for reductions in the number of foreigners in Kuwait.
  • Kuwait’s current population is 4.3 million, Kuwaitis represent 1.3 million and expatriates 3 million.
  • The new bill aims to gradually reverse the relationship between Kuwaitis and expatriates in the country’s population, so that expatriates no longer outnumber indigenous people.

Vaccine Expert Resigns: Gagandeep Kang, executive director of the Government Institute for Translation and Health Sciences (THSTI), Faridabad, has resigned from the institute. She is also vice president of the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness, a global consortium involved in facilitating promising vaccine candidates for Covid-19. She chaired a group consisting of the Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR) and the Covid-19 National Task Force to examine potential candidates for native vaccines. However, this group dissolved in just over a month.

  • The number of coronavirus cases reported from India stood at 7,14,685, with the death toll at 20,125. India is now the third worst-affected country in the world, surpassing Russia.
  • Close to 25,000 new cases have been reported in the last 24 hours, as per Health Ministry statistics. India’s coronavirus tally again rose sharply today, with 24,248 new cases in 24 hours.
  • Ennio Morricone, whose scores for movies such as The Good, the Bad and the UglyThe Mission, and Cinema Paradiso made him one of the world’s most famous screen composers, died today at the age of 91.
