COVID Times: The total number of Covid-19 cases in India is 58,826, with a death toll close to 2,000. The Center announced today that 216 Indian districts have no cases of coronavirus and has set the rate recovery at 29.36%.

The Supreme Court on Friday asked states to consider online sales and home delivery of spirits to prevent the spread of the coronavirus due to overcrowding in stores. In recent days, when liquor stores have been opened in parts of the country, they have witnessed serpentine tails, raising fears that they may themselves become infection groups. Meanwhile, in Tamil Nadu, the Madras High Court today ordered the closure of liquor stores across the state. The stores only opened yesterday. At least 16 workers from Madhya Pradesh, asleep on the railways, were crushed to death after a freight train passed them somewhere between the districts of Jalna and Aurangabad, nearly 260 km from Pune. The migrants, aged 20 to 35, were workers from Umarya and Shahdol (in Madhya Pradesh) and worked for a company in Jalna, Maharashtra. At around 5:15 a.m., a freight train ran over workers on a railroad track near Karmad, killing 16 of them. Disturbing scenes were also observed in Karmad when the police and rescuers were seen picking up body parts scattered on the railroad tracks. Survivors say they left Jalna around 7 p.m. At the start, up to Badnapore, they walked on the road. Later, they started to descend the tracks towards Aurangabad. After traveling about 36 km, they sat on the slopes to rest and fell asleep. The government of Madhya Pradesh, headed by Shivraj Singh Chouhan, has announced Rs. 5 lakh ex gratia as compensation for workers who have died. The Prime Minister of Maharashtra, Uddhav Thackeray, also announced rupees. 5 lakh free of charge for the families of the 16 migrant workers.

On Friday, the National Green Court (NGT) ordered LG Polymers India to deposit an initial amount of Rs. Rs 50 million for the damage caused by the gas leak in Visakhapatnam yesterday.
